YouTube Made Me Buy It

img_1212Honestly I was a youtube fangirl for years and beauty videos were 100% my favourite. Even now I still watch quite a lot of youtube, even if I don’t fangirl quite as much. But I would say YouTube has a LOT of influence over the beauty products that I buy and at least half of the makeup I own is because a youtuber or beauty guru has recommended it. So today I’m going to talk about some products that YouTube has made me buy and whether they are worth the hype.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette – £38.50

I’m pretty sure I would say the Naked palettes are one of the most hyped about makeup products of all time. I own the Naked 2 and Smoky and I’ve talked about my feelings for these palettes in so many posts before but I LOVE. The eyeshadows are just incredible quality – so soft, pigmented, blendable. They may be very expensive and not for everyone but if you want an amazing cool toned mostly shimmery palette then this is definitely worth the hype.

img_1213Real Techniques Brushes – £20.99

The only ones I actually have are the Core Collection, although I’ve had my eyes on the eye set (see what I did there, I didn’t even mean to…) for years. I wanted these brushes anyway but since everyone used to talk about them I did end up getting them as a present a few Christmasses ago and I am so glad I did because they are so soft and blend products really well. I’m going to be honest, I use the Buffing and Contour Brush pretty much every day I wear makeup but rarely use the Detailer brush and pretty much never use the Pointed Foundation Brush. I do really love the first two though and would spend all that money just for them. It’s also great that it comes with a case. If anyone wants to buy me the ultimate base set or this one, that would be great thanks. They may be expensive but they are worth it because your makeup will go on so much better, although I would wait until they’re on offer or order them with student discount.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara – £7.99

The YouTube and blogging world went absolutley CRAZY for this product, and it has to be one of the most popular mascaras, especially as its more affordable than some like Benefit. But I have to be honest and say that I didn’t love this mascara. Yes it is pretty good but I find if I use it on its own it makes my lashes quite clumpy – if that’s what you’re looking for you might love this but I personally do not. I did go through a phase where I used this religiously paired with Thick & Fast mascara which I do think looks pretty good but They’re Real will always be my favourite and by the time you’ve spent £18 on two mascaras you may as well just buy that. I know everyone likes their lashes different though and some people like Sophie Foster are still obsessed with this but to me, I wouldn’t repurchase it or say it was worth the hype.

Soap & Glory Supercat Eyeliner – £6

I go through phases of constantly wearing winged eyeliner and not wearing any at all. At the moment I’m not wearing it but that doesn’t mean I don’t love this eyeliner. There is a new skinny version which I am yet to try but would love to because the thickness of this is one of the only issues I have. Other than that, this eyeliner is SO black and long lasting and, as long as you wait for it to dry once you’ve put it on, it doesn’t smudge on the top of your eyelids. It is pretty difficult to use at first as it takes some getting used to, but once you have its so quick to create the perfect little flick. I also love how simple but pretty the packaging is. Nice one S&G – definitely worth the hype.

Maybelline Baby Skin Primer – £7.99

I swear everyone used to rave about these primers, and some even used to collect all the different ones. People used to say they were dupes for Benefit Porefessional but I literally never hear about them any more. I don’t know where all the hype went but I bought the Warm Apricot one quite a while ago, definitely over a year, because of how much people used to talk about it. But honestly, I never use this anymore. Maybe just cause I’m too lazy to ever use primer but even if I did I would reach for a Porefessional mini over this as you can get them free and I think £8 is pretty expensive for such a small tube. I’m not going to throw it away but I don’t think the Baby Skin primers are worth the hype they used to, but apparently don’t anymore, get.

Hope you enjoyed this post and let me know if hyou want to see a part 2 as I still have a huge pile of YouTube hyped products to write about. I also had an idea to do a post kinda like the reverse of this where I talk about products that I LOVE that don’t get nearly enough hype so let me know if you want to see that. I’ve had so much on at school but its finally half term (and yes school kids DO need a break) so I’ll try to be a bit more active this week.

Ellie xoxo

I had no idea that the baby skin primers came in different flavors or whatever you call it. I totally remember when it used to be hyped up so much. I got the original and it broke me out 😦 On the plus side, I totally agree that RT brushes and the UD naked palettes are worth the hype! I still use mine too 🙂

    1. Ouch everybody’s saying it broke them out! The apricot one was just a bit useless but at least it wasn’t bad for my skin. They are so worth the hype! xo

I also love RT brushes! I own quite a few of them, and their base brushes I prefer over eye brushes. I also tried the Maybelline primer, the original tube, and I didn’t get along with it at all! In fact it’s featured in an upcoming blog post about products I regret buying haha! It’s funny how products can work differently for different people.

  4. I was definitely won over to try the Lash Sensational Mascara because of Youtubers as well! I had a maybelline primer sitting in the packaging for over a year and finally decided to open it… I don’t think it’s really a dupe for the porefessional either.

Those real technique brushes sound great – I need to get my hands on some!
